The Playstation 3 is a Seventh Generation home video game console and the third home video game system created and sold by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was first released at 7:00 on November 26, 2006 in Japan.

- CPU: POWER-based 3.2 GHz Cell Broadband Engine and one 3.2 GHz POWER-based PPE with seven 3.2 GHz SPEs.
- GPU: 550 MHz RSX 'Reality Synthesizer'.
- Memory: 256 MB XDR DRAM at 3.2 GHz and 256 MB GDDR3 at 650 MHz (CPU can access GPU).
- Dimensions: 9.8 cm X 32.5 cm X 27.4 cm (8,726.9 cm3).
- Weight: 5 kg (11 lbs).
- Controller: Bluetooth enabled SIXAXIS/Dualshock 3 controller.
- Backwards compatibility: All models offer Playstation format software backwards compatibility. The 20 GB and the 60 GB model CECHAxx models offer Playstation 2 format software backwards compatibility with an Emotion Engine while the 60 GB model CECHCxx and the 80 GB model CECHExx offer it through Software Emulation. The 40 GB, 80 GB model CECHKxx, and 160 GB models cannot play Playstation 2 format software that is not stored in an internal HDD. All models have DVD compatiblity. The 20 GB, the 60 GB models CECHAxx and CECHCxx, and the 80 GB model CECHAxx also have SACD backwards compatibility.
- I/O: All models have one Ethernet port. The 20 GB, 60 GB models CECHAxx and CECHCxx, and the 80 GB model CECHAxx have four USB 2.0 ports while the 40 GB, 80 GB model CECHKxx, and 160 GB models have two USB 2.0 ports. The 60 GB models CECHAxx and CECHCxx, and the 80 GB model CECHKxx have 1 Memory Stick slot Pro/Duo, 1 SD/mini SD port, and 1 Compact Flash port, allowing them to play Playstation 2 format software requiring a memory card.
- Optical media: 2X BD-ROM, 8X DVD, 24X CD, 2X SACD (only compatible with the 20 GB, the 60 GB models CECHAxx and CECHCxx, and the 80 GB model CECHAxx).
- Video outputs: RGB, Component, S-Video, Composite, SCART, HDMI 1.3a.
- Resolutions: 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p: (HDTV capable).
- Audio: Dolby Digital, DTS, Dobly TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio*, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio*[109] are compatible with DVD and BD. DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 are only compatible with DVD while DTS-ES Matrix[110] is only compatible with BD.
- Network: All models use 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T Ethernet and 802.11 b/g Wi-fi except for the 20 GB model which uses only 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T Ethernet.
